How are floor plans measured?

Floor plan drafting is completed from the inside of the property. Depending on the property, however, square footage can be calculated to either the interior or the exterior of the walls.

For free-standing homes, square footage is calculated to the exterior face of the walls. For apartments and condominiums, square footage is calculated to the interior face, because the draftsperson often cannot calculate the exterior wall thickness.

Please note: our floor plans are diagrammatic and intended to show the layout of the structure with a rough/approximate square footage. The square footage calculations we provided are what our draftsperson came up with but should not be taken as authoritative or conclusive. Furthermore, we have no way of knowing how any previous square footage numbers were arrived at.
